====== What Is Adobe PostScript? ====== How Adobe PostScript works When you select Print, your computer's printer driver automatically generates a PostScript language file describing the size and style of the page on which the graphics should be placed and how the color is applied. In other words, the PostScript language file tells the printer how to paint the pixels of the document onto the page. Once sent to the printer, the PostScript language file is processed by a built-in raster image processor (RIP). An Adobe PostScript-enabled RIP translates your application's instructions, optimizes the PostScript language file to suit the needs of your printer, and creates an array of pixels, called a bitmap, that is sent to the device for printing exactly as intended by the original application.
