====== Sweeney Todd Review ====== Despite Oscar buzz, audiences heavily steered clear of Tim Burton's horror musical, Sweeney Todd. I, however, was excited to see it due to all the thrill and nominations its been getting. Besides, there is not much else out there. The first 20 minutes or so are exhausting to get by way of. Perhaps it was weird to see those actors belting out tunes or as a result of every time you neglect it was a musical, there's another music. But each time they started singing, it felt really inappropriate and awkward. Around the time little Toby (performed by the adorable Ed Sanders) will get on screen for the first time, you are feeling slightly better as a result of he is just so cute. This was additionally the first musical number that wasn't so moody and dark. Not that I didn't respect the moody and the dark as a result of I did and should you see this movie, anticipate a lot of that. It just took a little bit of getting used to. You think of musicals as fun extravagant numbers with dancing and dazzle and all that jazz, but this film is much from that. The numbers usually are not significantly catchy or fun, however disturbing and twisted. However, by the point Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter began singing and dancing about putting lifeless folks into meat pies, I was sold. The rest of the film is simply as delightfully darkish and comical. It was a fantastic story with a number of surprising turns that had me considering "I should have seen this coming." It was properly written and nicely filmed, with a unprecedented cast. You need to applaud the leads, Depp and Carter, for taking the cinematic risk they did. Both of them are on my list of best actors of all time and this film is among the the reason why. Another great casting was the all the time great, Alan Rickman, who seamlessly portrays the creepy, perverted Judge Turpin, that Depp's character is obsessed with killing. Fun fact for Harry Potter fans: his trustworthy sidekick Beadle in the film was played by Timothy Spall, who's the Wormtail to Rickman's Snape in the Harry Potter franchise. Spall is one guy that I would like to see cast in a likeable role. He's an excellent actor, however he plays the same ratty little evil minion in every film. But he was nice along with everybody else. Even Sacha Baron Cohen, who I hate with a fiery passion, was gratifying. And who knew Borat might sing? The verdict: check it out. It certainly deserves all the thrill it has been getting. It has one thing for everyone, when you do not thoughts slightly throat slitting right here and there. Do you assume it's incorrect that seeing it put me in the mood for a meat empanada? Whatever, it was scrumptious and no less than there were no legal professionals or clergymen in mine.
