Christmas Tree Mix

This is not a food recipe. It is a pretreatment for your new Christmas tree to help it absorb water and stay fresh!

Mix the following ingredients in a large bucket:

  • 1 gallon of warm water
  • 1 pint clear corn syrup
  • 4 ounces of bleach
  • 1/2 teaspoon borax (optional)
  • 2 ounces clear vinegar
  • 2 ounces liquid detergent for delicate washables

—- Cut two inches from the trunk of the tree. Stand the tree in a bucket filled with the mixture. Soak the tree for 12 to 24 hours. (Do this outside since bleach can ruin carpets.) After soaking, place it in a tree stand that has a large water receptacle. Be sure to check the water level often when you bring your tree inside. Trees that have been treated will usually absorb more water and may need refilling more than once a day.

Merry Christmas!
