===== Dad's Lasagna =====

  * 2 lb ricotta cheese
  * 16 oz mozzarella
  * 1/2 cup grated parmesan
  * 1 lb sweet Italian sausage
  * 1 lb ground beef
  * 1 cup chopped onion
  * 1 28 oz can whole tomatoes
  * 2 6-oz cans tomato paste
  * 2 1/2 cups water
  * 1 tsp. crushed basil leaves
  * 1 tsp. salt
  * 1 chopped garlic clove
  * 1 beaten egg
  * 1/2 tsp. thyme
  * 1 tbls. dried parsley leaves
  * 1/4 tsp. pepper
  * 1 10-oz pkg lasagna noodles

  - Remove sausage from casing.  Crumble and brown sausage and ground beef in a large saucepot.
  - Add garlic and onion.  Saute until tender.  Drain excess fat.
  - Add tomatoes and paste.  Break tomatoes.  Add water and mix.
  - Add oregano, basil, thyme and salt.  Stir, heat to boil.  Reduce heat and simmer 35-40 min.  Stir occasionally.
  - In bowl, combine ricotta and parmesan cheeses, beaten egg, parsley and pepper.  Blend.
  - In lightly buttered 13X9X2 baking dish, place 4 lasagna noodles (overlapping).  Top with 1/2 ricotta mix, 2 cups sauce, and 1/3 mozzarella.  Repeat layers twice ending with noodles and sauce on top.  Sprinkle parmesan on top.
  - bake in preheated 350 deg. oven for 35-45 min. or to serving temperature.


Note:  Allow additional 15-20 min. more when baking cold.
